Default To charge or not to charge?

    Need some advice please!

One of my familys (2 school age and 1 under 5) is on a term time only contract, no fee charged in holidays. After half term we have 2 inset days which is going to affect them on the Tuesday.

Am I right to charge? I think they get a good deal from already having 13 weeks at no charge and this will be a normal open for business day for me. Now I'm kind of thinking that teacher training days are part of term but am I being unfair here?

    Any thoughts appreciated!

hi, i have 2 term time only contracts and i wouldnt charge them for that day as well as they wouldnt expect me to work that day! if they were expecting you to work you could well be saying no as its a school holiday....HTH I suppose you have to look at it from both sides

I do charge my term time only contracts for inset days. I use term time dates as set by the local authority, which doesn't include inset days.

I explain to parents that inset days are not the same as holidays.

Inset days do not always tag on before or after school holidays, so if one occurs mid-week during a school week would you be happy to not charge? Parents may not want to pay you for these if you didn't charge for an inset before after hols.

I would charge as if it was a normal day. To me an inset day isnt a school holiday, so if the children are due to come to you but the school is closed then I would still chage as its not my fault the school is closed.

Default term time only - payments

    Hi,
Was wondering what other people do with term time only contracts.
Do you charge half or full fee for holidays as you are holding the space open for them and you cant fill that space over the holidays.
I've spoken to a few local parents and all have paid their childminder a half fee for holidays.
New parents enquiring at the moment and not sure what to offer.
    Thank You

And for those who saw my last question - I sorted the boy who "poos" all over my floor. His parents are putting him into nursery full time as of half term.
