bank holidays

Hi
I have the morton michel contracts and have ticked the box that says I may make myself available to work bank holidays and I have set my fees to 50p more than usual rate for this.

Just wondering if they do not require me to have their kids on bank hols do I still charge them normal rate as if they were coming or no fee? Only I'm confused as the childminder I used to have for my son used to charge for bank hols even though she didn't work them, one year I ended up paying for Xmas day and new years day for him to be at home with me

my policy is if i am not available then i don't charge so i don't,but some do.....i just like my time off without issues over fees just makes my life easier

I work part time and I charge for bank holidays if they fall on a contracted day but I don't work them.

This is all explained at the start and written into contracts. I don't charge for bank holidays if I am on holiday and would never dream of charging for either Christmas or New Years Day but I know some do.

Make sure that whatever you agree with parents is written into the contract - if you are happy to work bank holidays then I suggest you charge a bit more than an extra 50p an hour - I would want at least double time.

I agree, double time!!

I dont work them and dont charge for them, not worth the arguments over fees!

christmas day thats rediculus , i personnally dont agree with charging if your not available so i dont charge for bank holidays as i dont work

I think that .50p more an hour is way too low

I get paid for all my bank hols and I charge as if it was a normal day if I am not required

I would only work bank holidays at three times the normal rate as that's what I normally work for with three children. I only charge for Bank Holidays if they aren't part of my holiday so I don't charge for Christmas or New Year as I'm on holiday, but I charge for the other ones at normal rate, but no service provided. The exception being if the parent does not get paid for Bank Holidays, but this has only applied to good Friday once in twenty years of minding

I have the same contracts and I tick this box.

Personally if anyone wants me to work on a bank holiday they need to give me plenty of notice ie. 4 wks and pay me at a much higher rate, but I don't charge if I'm not needed.

I just count it as a well deserved day off

I am available for all Bank Holidays with notice and so if the BH is on a contracted day and the child doesn't come to me then they pay their normal fee. If they use me then it is double and triple fee for Christamas Day, Boxing Day or New Years Day. I have worked Boxing Day in the past.
