    Default saturday fees

hi all need some advice on what to charge on a saturday, i don't really want to do it but its one sat out of six(every sixth week) i look after the child after school 2 days a week and 4 days school hols my normal rate is £3.50per hr normal and £4.50 before and after school. mum told me she thinks i should charge £1 more than normal so £4.50 but i feel this is too low i was thinking time and a half which would make it £5.25 she has to realise its my day which would be spent with my family what do you charge. she comes in an hour and is expecting an answer.
    thanks trace x

depends on how many hours, usually 5 an hour but if for 2 or 3 hours then would be more i think. ive never been asked so not sure, would depend on their job i think as if they have a good job then they would be paid alot more for weekend, i know that the 2nd job i do if its a weekend i can between 10 and 12 an hour.

I charge double for unsociable hours, which would be £6. If you dont really want to do it I would say its double your normal hourly rate. If you do then tell her you would normally charge double but as it is only every 6 weeks you will (on this occasion) charge time and a half. Make it sound like you are doing her a favour.

Crikey. thats a long day for a Saturday which is your time off. I think parents forget that when they have a day off in the week, we dont as we have other children. Id charge double time

I think that you have been very fair. 10 hours = £55 at £5.50 so if she was thinking £4.50 its only a bit more every 6 weeks. Apart from it being a Sat 7.45 is early and 6.15 is late. On a normal day I would class before 8 and after 6 unsociable hours and charge accordingly. Hope it works out whichever way you want it.

well i think you've done the right thing. I dont think that is very expensive as far as overtime rates go! minimum wage is still even more than that.
Hope she gets back to you with a yes and doesnt keep you waiting too long!
