Good question Sarah, I don't know the answer but am very interested to see what the girls say. I'm not putting mine up yet as I only started in July again but I'm getting £3 an hour which seems about right for this area. I was getting that in London 6 years ago though!! lol

I dont think anyone would complain if you put your fees up by 15p a hour, when you consider the rising costs of fuel, gas, electric, and food.

You could do a mix of all really - new Contracts you could charge what you want as long as you feel you could still fill the space, some children you might want to charge a little more than others. I do this for various reasons - because some come to me for a lot of hours so I tend to charge a little bit less. Another way I work out what to charge is if the parents take the mick or not If they pick the children up exactly on time/late then the fees go up but if for example I have 2 siblings whose parent is brill - when she takes time off she has the children (not everyone does) so her fees are "friendly rate" LOL

I put mine up by 50p an hour to £3.50 i know its a big jump but its only up to what everyone else is already charging and some more. All my parents were fine about it did give them 3 months notice. I also provide meals and toddler fees.

Hi I'm new here! Anyway, I put my rate up by 25p per hr in June as that was a year from when I started. I now charge £5.25 an hour. I will continue to put it up by at least this much every June.
    Hope this helps!

I wish I lived where you do Kay! I put my fees up by 50p to £3.50 last year, which is the going rate in my area, I do not think that I could put my fees up anymore at the moment without risking loosing children (infact I did not put up one of my after schoolies because I would have then been more expensive than the after school club).

I'm not going to put mine up until April 09 and by that time some people will have been with me for 18mths and I think that is very fair - I set my rate at the higher end of the mid range for my area and have just taken on some new children for before and after schoolers from Sept so theirs won't be increasing in April. I'm also going to see what the cost of living has increased by by then and perhaps set it at a % rate for full days and full time and then a pence rate for hourly so it roughly equals the same percentage. I will probably base it on my husbands cost of living pay increase for next year.

I don't do hourly rates but look at what I want to achieve in a day from 8-6pm. At present I get between £38.00 - £40.00 but that is a 10 hour day and £37.00 for a 6-10 hour day.

Confusing I know but it is what we are worth

I live in Buckinghamshire. I think that I amone of the highest in my area, with the average being £4/4.50, but I went from being a nanny on £8 per hour to childminding and refused to work for less than £5! None of my parents have questioned it at all, and didn't mind when I raised my rate.

    Hi!
May I ask In what area are you work in?? Do parents actually pay that with no problems?? I just got a hard time over the phone when my Childmindee's mom found out I charge a min of £10 per day to save a space even though the child is here only 1 1/2 hrs!!! I have the child 10 hrs some days and charge £35. So, it'a all about the spaces and not so much the hourly rate, right?? Or am i being unfair? Thanks, Laura

Good for you Kay. If you have parents who will pay that then fair play to you. I'm still on £3 an hour. I have two mindees, a brother and sister and I charge £3ph each, I don't give a discount. Also I only have them about 16 hours a week so I probably should have asked for a set fee rather than an hourly one. We learn by our mistakes!!

I don't put my fees up for existing mindees every year, but if I take new ones on they get charged a higher rate
