    Default wrap around school care

What do you charge for your wrap around school care? What is your hourly rate in comparison?

I charge the same hourly fee for all my children, regardless of age!

the only difference in fee I have, is that children who come termtime only, pay a higher fee than those who come all year round.

    works for me x

I have always understood that a contract was to be negotiated with parents so I know how much I need to earn, what I will and won't work for, and I negotiate terms and payments with each individual family and their needs/desires. I am more often than not pleasantly surprised at how much they are willing to pay.

So all my families are on a different rate depending on what sort of service they require.

We charge our normal hourly rate for before and after school children - we find they eat a lot more, use a lot more resources and need dropping off / collecting so we work hard for our pennies!

So what do you charge? I currently charge £5 per hour for term time only and £4 for normal rates. I'm considering a price hike to be the same as everyone in my area to £4.50/hour but not sure about term time and schoolies. Some schoolies don't have me for long but pay the set price and others have me for the full quota and get a meal too.

There are some key considerations with wraparound care.

The children will go through a lot more food, drink and materials (I.e. craft materials, toilet and cleaning products, etc.) than day care children for the short time they are there.

You need to allow for more travelling time in proportion to the time they are at your premises. By this I mean the walk/drive to and from school. This is, to a degree, offset by the fact you don't have to spend so much time on planning, LJs, etc. as you would for EYFS children.

Affordability. I can see how the parents of EYFS children can be upset about fees that eat into their wages. The parents of schoolies don't have to shell out a huge chunk of their earnings in order to go to work every day.

£10 for before school with breakfast, or after school with tea. This includes up to 2 hours.

£15 for before and after school, including both breakfast and tea. This includes up to 3 hours' care.

    Additional hours at £4 ph.

I don't muck about with discounts for siblings, or deductions if they use fewer hours or miss the meals. If they're not here when breakfast or tea is served, then they miss out.

My rates will probably rise to £10.50 and £16 respectively later this year.

If this all seems rather harsh and rigid, it boils down to parents who've messed about trying to cut their child's care to the bone. In the past this had included the mum who wanted 20 minutes before school for £1; one poor mite who arrived with a "packed breakfast" of jam and cheese strings; and a mum who wanted three children here for the price of one because (in her own words) she "can't be bothered with them in the mornings."

I charge £5 per hour. Have done for years. Parents provide breakfast as in cereals/bread slices as I just couldn't keep up with requests for different types of cereal/toast etc. I ask for £1 towards tea. I would like to up my fees but know I can't as parents will vote with their feet and go to the school as it is 40% an hour cheaper.

I charge £7.50 for before school and £18 for after with tea or £21.50 for both. My hourly rate is £6 for eyfs or older ones during school holidays.
ETA no sibling discounts or reductions has for shorter hours - set fees same for everyone regardless of hours as little no as it's within my operating hours of 8-6pm. I too have learnt from past mistakes and am now very firm on this and have a waiting list.
