Default What method should I ask parents to pay me by?

I have just opened a new current account and want the only parent I have at the moment to pay into that account.

Should I ask her to do this by bank transfer? Or can she just phone her bank and ask them to put money into my account or put the money into my account via internet banking?

Does bank transfer have to be the same amount each month as most months payments will vary by a bit as I am doing term time for her?

I am looking for advice of best way she can pay me. She said she is happy to pay me cash but I would rather it goes into my bank account. Thanks.

Bank transfers can be done eother over the phone or online. If her bill is going to be different each week/month this would be the easier option.
If the bill is likely to be the same every month then a standing order could be set up so it leaves their bank on the same day each month. Any extra hours they use could then be paid in cash when they use them.
    Hope that helps

If the parent uses internet banking then ask her to send it to you by bank transfer. It can be different amounts and most payments can be set up via mobile phone whilst on-line.

many of mine pay by direct transfer but to be honest some still prefer to pay by cash. some i guess this is to do with budgeting but some don't have internet access at home.
If it is tricky for her to access her accounts to pay you each time it may be as well to work out a regular monthly payment that she can set up a standing order for - every 4 weeks maybe. Only difficulty would be if her payment amount changes regularly.

Personally I accept payment in a variety of ways - whatever is convenient to parent - as long as they pay me!.

I have one part funded by LA both parent and LA pay bank transfer (4 weekly & monthly respectively)
Another pays by weekly bank transfer
    Another by cheque monthly
    Another by cheque weekly
    2 more by cash weekly.

TBH I am happy to get bank transfers as the money goes straight to the bank and the bank is 14 miles away from me but the parent has to be organised as they do it at home and some would forget and need several reminders! Not all people internet bank. I have at least one "ditsy" parent in their own words!

The only way I wont accept payment is by cheque. Child care vouchers, cash and ban transfers are all good x

Thanks. I would rather bank transfer as it would save me having to go to the bank to put the money in my account (which I would then need to bank transfer myself to my new account).

    I will let her decide

Will I need to get a receipt book so if parents pay me in cash then I write a receipt for it?

Not very hopeful here about my business abilities.

A receipt is best so you know where you both are - if I don't write it down I don't know where I am! for business reasons and so I don't ask customer again for money already paid! Useful for them for their records too.

I'm sure you will be fine with business - it just takes a bit of time to think how you want it to be and instigate it all. So long as you know in your head what you want and are clear with parents so they know where they are I'm sure it will be fine.

I prefer them to pay direct into the bank, but otherwise they can pay cash. I won't accept cheques as for a start it leaves me without payment until it's cleared, and also there isn't a bank in my village and I refuse to have to drive into town to get paid! Cash or direct!

In my view BAC is the simplest and quickest way to get paid and because it is on your statement it is proof which parent has paid you...payments can be traced back years
All you have to do is ask for the fees to be in your account by a certain date...say the 1st of the month...their surname appears on your statement and that is your receipt.
Not sure if there is a better way?

I accept all forms of payment except cheques and bottle tops.

I stopped accepting cheques after one bounced and (silly I know) I was embarrassed having to tell the parent and charge her my bank fees.

Thanks everyone. I will definately not accept cheque's then. Also as someone said I couldn't be bothered driving for miles to find a bank to pay it into.I can see that it would be very embarrasing if the cheque bounced. Thanks everyone, I will be firm and say I don't accept cheque's if anyone asks.

I need to get more than the one child before I will have these major problems. I've been speaking to a couple of local childminders who are saying business is good (just not with me then!!). They have kindly asked for my number to pass onto parents they can't accomdate. So here's hoping.

    Thanks again.

munch - that's a shame my name annoyed you . Handy it's not your nick name now or else there would be two of us here! Was this your nick name because of your surname?

Yes because of surname. It was actually a teacher that called me it first and it stuck
