What to charge for an after schoolie?
I havent had an after schoolie before so am a bit stuck. I normally charge £5 per hour including dinner. A mum has emailed and asked for hours of 7.30 or 8am to drop pff at school at 9am. then pick up at 3.15pm and have until 5.45pm, a 4yr old. what should I charge????! Thanks

I have a before and after school charge from 8 - 9 am and 3 - 6 pm.
I have a before school charge just for 8 - 9 am
I have an after school charge just for 3 - 6 pm... these add up to the same as the one which covers both sessions.
We include breakfast / snack after school / tea.
If parents want an earlier start or late finish I might accommodate them but they go into my overtime rate.
You should look at what other childminders are charging in your local area and review your fees policy.

I just charge my normal rate, which includes snacks. Meals are charged on top if they are wanted. I do only drop and collect from two preschools and one infant/juniors though.

I charge four pund an hour or any part of an hour so in your case I would charge £20 a day and include a snack after school.

So if I charge £20 for the morning and afternoon and include a snack and then add dinner on top? I normally charge £5 an hr and include food.

I've just took someone on same hours including food at £5 hour

If I was charging £5 per hour it would be £25 a day.

Atm I charge me usual hourly rate of £5 an hour,
However when I return from mat leave I am considering charging a specific amount for out of school care.
When I first started out I took on some ad hoc contracts and didn't put on a minimum charge, this has left me out of pocket at times so will be redoing my fees policy :-)

I charge an extra 50p for the first hour before or after school and then my normal rate per hour or half hour. I think everyone works it differently

I currently charge a set schoolie fee of £21 (8-6inc tea) but am thinking about just charging my hourly rate (£6) with a minimum charge of £15. I've found some parents feel they're paying for the hours so might as well use them whether they could collect earlier or not and it's also hard to justify late fees if they are later than agreed but still within your charging period (ie 1 parent should pick up at 5:30 but is always late and points out my £21 covers her until 6pm )

Out of interest those of you charging £5+ an hour are you in large towns/cities?

No I'm in a village near an affluent town in the SE. The rates near my sister in SE London are similar (£6/hr) & my friend in St. Albans pays £6.50/hr

I charge £15 per day for wraparound school care no matter how few hours. This includes drop off and pick-up as needed and breakfast/snacks as appropriate. This also serves as a retainer for keeping a place for them during school holidays - when they then revert to hourly rate of £3.25.

a lot depends on your area.
My before and after school fee is £15 - I am open from 7.15 and close at 6.15. This includes breakfast / snack / dinner.
