Is it the data protection act and how long do I have to keep records for?

Yes information we retain is covered by the Data Protection Act.

The Eyfs governs the questions we have to ask as well.

Retention lengths vary depending on the information - which did you want to know about?

to cover all aspects of teh question, I would read through the statutory requirements of the EYFS, then look at how the data protection act relates to our work

Sarah, I am working on the understanding partnership working section level 2. The questions are about confidentiality and sharing information. All the question asked was:-

What are the legal requirements for recording information?

This is why I am stuck, it isn't really a question relating to anything?

Thanks loads for both of your help. Am just wanting to get this finished, do my last assessment on Monday and be done with it all!!!

i'm guessing you will find the answers to that in the EYFS hon. it will be with regards to what parent contacts you have/ recording accidents, administering medication etc. If it's not in EYFS itself, you will find ofsted bulletins/memos on their website

Hi, I reread the question and my textbook and I think I was going about it the wrong way. The question is 'What are the legal requirements for recording information?'

I think they are asking me what laws I need to abide by, not what I want to write about. So instead I have put this ...

    • Data Protection Act 1998 – Providing the framework which makes sure information is shared appropriately
    • Children Act 2004 – This act explains what information I need to share
    • Children’s Plan 2007 – Explains information which shouldn’t be shared
    • Every Child Matters
    • Early Years Foundation Stage framework

Hoping this is what they want as it is getting late and I need to sleep!!!
