When starting a new theme I sit with the children and we chat about what they already know.

This helps me to decide what kind of things I need to plan and then I go off and find some ideas

The theme sort of came about by accident really. There was an electrician sorting out the cable lines outside our house and blocked my driveway, so we waited and watched him up in this cherry picker thingy and talking about what he was doing etc. One mindee kept saying fireman.

Anyway, electrician came down and moved his van so I could get on my driveway. The schoolies got out and started asking questions and the little ones just stared. The man let the schoolies go in the cherry picker and lifted it so they could see over the van (not too high).

One of the kids asked why he had a rope and he explained that he lowers the rope down and his colleague ties something on it and he can lift it back up to save him keep going back down... We got inside and out came DS dressing gown rope and they played electrician... Mindee KEPT saying fireman so we started talking about people who help us lol
