    Default Planning & grandchild

    Hi

Do I need to do planning and observations for my grandchild? I only have him one day a week (sometimes) and at weekends but he is at nursery (full-time)for 3 days a week! I do it for all the other children in my care but am not sure about my grandchild.
    Thanks
    Love

Yes, I think as long as he is on your register you should. I would enjoy doing a learning journey for my grandchild, and treating him the same as any other child in my care.

As a grand parent you are not childminding and therefore don't have to do the EYFS. Ofsted to not recognise a grand child as a minded child.

Before this turns into a debate I have been there.

My advice is to email Ofsted and have their written reply in your folder for the inspection.

I do a learning journey for my grandson and plan the same as the other children, i know i don't have to but why shouldn't he have a learning journey to look at and show mum and dad who are happy for me to do this he is with me 4 days a week.

I also look after my granddaughter. I called ofsted and asked their reply was: If you get paid and they are on your books then you need to follow EYFS. If you do not get paid they are just your grandchild and no need to do EYFS but if they are in your home you need to count in with your numbers. HTH

    Hi

Thank you everyone. I do quite like the idea of doing a learning journey for my grandson but wasn't sure if I have to. Sometimes it can be quite hectic trying to do 4 or 5 but if it isn't actually a requirement then I can just do it as & when. I think just to be on the safe side I will email ofsted!

    Love
