Default Fresh drinking water available at all times

Just wondering how other childminders meet this requirement.

I have under 3's at the moment and if i left water out and turned my back for a second it would be all over the floor??

Just wondering how you've put this in place in other settings

    Thanks

Yes lidded cups are what I do for the little ones then I have sports type drinking bottles for the older ones with a jug of filtered water readily available for them to re-fill them from.

One childminder I know was grilled on how they prevent a child from drinking from another ones cup/beaker!! I would think from around 18 months they know which is theirs but I would't expect a pair of one year olds too!

I use lidded cups or sports type bottles (all named). As each child has a named (with photo) towel hook in the bathroom, tray for home stuff and coat hook in the hall I find they are able to recognise their written name very early (by 18 months!).

mmmmmmmmmmm this is one thing I don't do. There is fresh water in the tap at all times and they can ask for it when needed, those non spill cups are not good for teeth development and I don't want to be mopping up spills all day. Also I am perfectly capable of offering a drink at regular intervals to a younger child who can not yet communicate. Ive had a few children including one of my own that would just drink all day and then not want to eat anything at meal times.

I know where you are coming from... plus I've had parents who ask me not to give children water later in the afternoon because they are up all night weeing if they drink too much.

BUT and it's a big BUT ... it's the law, we have no choice but to make water freely available at all times.

I use sports bottles for older ones and different coloured cups with lids for little ones. The biggest problem I have is getting them to sit down when they are drinking. It offends me to see children carrying drinks around with them, that's when their teeth get damaged.

my own (just turned 2) has a cup with no lid at if it gets knocked over, well its only water.

but if they are reallly clumsy then a lid with straw is better. Dentist actually advises this if kids drink milk or juice as it doesnt let it sit on their teeth.

Yes but it is avaiable its in the tap. Just like hand washing facilties have to be available, but this does not mean we have a bowl of soapy water with in a childs reach at all times.
