prevent duty policy

I've been told by my child-minding support worker that it would be good practice to write a british values/prevent duty policy, has anyone done one that I can look at as I don't know where to start!
also I have to update my SEN policy to SEND policy what do I need to add to the new one to comply with the new framework?

Don't make work for yourself- Prevent is just one aspect of Safeguarding so a paragraph as part of your Safeguarding Policy is all you need.

That's what I had read on here before but she said to do a separate one! I will add it to my safeguarding policy, do I just explain that I'm aware of it or go into more detail?

Useful responses to anyone who tells you that you "must" do something:-

1. Who says so?
2. On what authority?
3. Why?
4. Please show me where it says that in the regulations/law.
5. And what exactly will happen to me if I refuse? (...because I am refusing.)

There is no need for a CM to make their anti-terrorism policy longer than that of successive Whitehall regimes. In both of my lifetimes, these have been as follows:-

1960-1990: "Innocent until proven Irish."

1991-2014: "Innocent until proven Muslim."

2015 - ? : "Innocent until proven they have children who don't share or say 'please'. "

All equally crazy, I know.

.............and all equally ineffective.

Maybe ask if she'd like to: write it for you, send out to parents, gather parents' agreements, file it, review it annually, update it everytime the Gov thinks of a new bit to add (then repeat all previous steps)...?!

love the above answers! that's how I feel but far too quiet to actually say it, (must get myself a backbone sometime soon)!!
as it happens I found that id been sent an updated safeguarding policy from my local childminding network which includes a small paragraph on the prevent duty, so she was basically contradicting herself (or the network) she was lovely and very helpful in other ways though

childminding would be the best job if it weren't for the paperwork

Your EY support worker has a duty to not just 'tell' you what to do but to support and suggest ways you can bring your policies up to date...please contact her and ask for that support unless you can find a local cm able to help you.

For the SEND policy I would look on your LA website as you need very important information on their 'Local Offer' before you can revise your policy.

Ofsted have confirmed...over and over again...that providers ARE already teaching British Values via the EYFS and PSED.
it is a shame that adding the #'British' in front has thrown everyone...these are 'universal and shared' values which you will have taught since EYFS 2008 came out

Uhuhuh!! Bunyip...that reminds me of a certain Mr Benn...same values and same questions!!

It is time we started rebelling against all these 'prescriptive' requests from our EY teams...when will they ever stop asking us to do what is not required?
And when will they actually look at the Childcare Act and realise they have to help us not just drive us crazy with their useless paperwork!!

Ive added it to my safeguarding policy now and also found the updated SEND policy on our local council website, didn't know that there was a page for local childminders on there with lots of links to policies ect. just found it by googling!!

As for "best practice", I really need to get round to publishing The Childminder's Dictionary one of these days.

Best practice
(abstract noun) = anything the speaker thinks you should be doing, but for which there is no regulatory requirement nor evidence for the efficacy thereof.
A favourite of trainers, development officers and other 'professional' control freaks.
In practical terms, best translated as "hey, listen to me, cos I know nothing."

I wonder if anyone has ever told our EY teams and LAs that it is not 'good practice' to cream off central govt funding and pass on the crumbs to providers?
