    Default Teaching british values

Is this still required and how does everyone implement it? I'm not really sure I 'get' it, it seems to contradict teaching diversity etc a bit?

By teaching diversity that is a "British" value in that everybody is excepted, of value and worth. There are other countries who would not teach this. You are also doing lots of teaching with how you are with the children/parents, people you meet out and about which will speak more that a "teaching session". I know as a country we don't always show these values to others but it starts with individuals.

DfE guidance on early education and childcare mentions British values on p14...they are not defined and teaching them is a requirement to get funding... not sure if it means that if you do not get funded you do not have to teach them?....mind boggling really!

The argument is that British values are already embedded in the EYFS...and the 'experts'!!! are putting this argument forward...I too believe they are in there

I am in no doubt the EYFS will be tweaked again...and not just for this reason but because it is out of date already....when we do not know but after the election if this govt is reelected?

I think most childminders do this without thinking. By teaching the children to be polite curitious and kind are basically teaching them British values. Although I'm guessing they are values of all cultures. Personally I do it by being me. I am polite to the children and respect them and I expect the same back from them.

I agree with you...we do teach them already and PSED is proof of that...I keep thinking Education Minister Morgan has never opened the EYFS and understood its contents which her predecessor delighted in reforming and reducing to edu speak.

Also ...not being English myself and having lived and integrated in English culture for over 40 years...I can say that British values do not differ from country to country...or culture to culture...they have no boundaries.
    My view of course!
