e-safety awareness!!
hello,
went to a childminding meeting last week and have been told that e-safety was a "new big point" for Ofsted, but they haven't told us what to do about it.
It might already be on this forum but I can't find it.
Do we need a e-safety policy? or other paperwork about it.
Any ideas?
thanks

It is not a requirement of the Eyfs to have an e-safety policy.
We should all be registered with ICO - www.ico.gov.uk as a data handler.
If you are a Childcare.co.uk gold member there is some e-safety training in the Childminder plus section

thanks Sarah. Unfortunately I am not a gold childcare member anymore, so can't look.

It maybe useful to look at websites like NSPCC for guidance
You may want to add a paragraph to your 'Confidentiality and Data Protection' stating how you keep children 'safe' when using a computer, how you supervise them and also in terms of Health and Safety how you ensure their welfare, how you limit the time they spend in front of a screen etc
Good luck !

I was on a safeguarding course last night and they suggested a computer use policy might be a good idea if you allow mindees to use the computer / Internet in your home. Personally I would appreciate further training on e safety especially since my son is now at an age where he is showing an interest in you tube etc. The mindees don't access the Internet as yet but may want to as they get older and I'd like to be as aware as possible.

This may be of help

There are courses we can attend on this but obviously now we may have to pay for them?

Thanks Simona I'll check that out :-)

We're very e-safe in this house ... mindees don't use the pc apart from cbeebies and that is only with my supervision and very rarely.
I occasionally put youtube on ... But only for things I've already watched!

thanks for those advices. I will have a look at my policies and might had something about e-safety.

This is a quote from my Safeguarding policy
E Safety
Children may use my computer for educational CD’s, writing and art programmes and playing interactive games on sites like CBeebies – Children are not allowed access to the internet without supervision. I was thinking on whether the e-safety now will need to reflect recent Ofsted findings in schools on the children's use of internet and govt policy which is already in their factsheets? ... how long before the EYFS has a mention of this as well?

Even very young children are using various devices so in that respect I don't think it'll be far off!
