My LJs are in date order so I have just carried on as normal.
For the children I have written a very brief summary assessment and then moved them over to the next age / stage Development Matters.
I have put a sheet in explaining the changes briefly and given parents a copy
Thanks Sarah, mine are in date order too, just wondering what everyone did. Do you have a template for summary by any chance? Im a cheeky moo I know!!

I have just written a brief summary - I didn't pre-print it sorry!
Oh ok, excellent, didnt know if it had to be formal at all. Thanks again Sarah xx

This may sound stupid but my observations are on loose leaf paper and I have been considering putting them in files so most recent observation is at the front, so I can see where child has got to rather than where they were when they started with me. Does anyone else do this - it seems wrong somehow!
Ive wondered that too. I like it in date order as you can see child growing etc but its true you have to rifle through it to get to current page. I will probably keep mine in date order for now unless someone else has a fab idea. x

I do the same, keep my observations in date order so I do have to flick through to the last page to find the current page. But I have the development matters page at the front with a sheet next to it where I write all my next steps - just a simple table with date, what next step I identified is and then a final column for date when I completed activity for the next step or when it was observed. If you get what I mean. As the dev matters sheet is at front with the next steps summary next to it I can just see straight away when doing my planning for individual children what I need to focus on without flipping through file.
Sorry bit longwinded but hope I was clear and helps!
