Default child review 2-3 years - sept 2012

hello, can i ask a question please, and hopefully its not something that i have missed.

With regards to the developmental report that childcarers have to provide for children between the age of 24 and 36 months. what happens if the child goes to a childminder and a pre -school?

Who does the report? is it the setting that has the child the most?

Usually the person who has the child the most, you will find the pre-school will do one anyway, you will need to work in parnership with them if they allow you too, I do my own as well.

Yes it will be the place where the child is the most - but you should offer to work in partnership and both contribute

We have been told that it will all be co ordinated by the Health visitors.

They will tell the parents when their child's physical check with them is to happen and ask the parent for the contact details of any childminders/pre schools the child attends. We will the all be asked to submit our reports to the Health Visitor prior to her check.

This is why it is 2-3 year old because the checks can happen any time in this year.

We were told yesterday by Ofsted early years head - that yes will eventually link to the health visitor check - but not straight away.

Also they said that they would not be expecting eveeryone to have completed these checks by Sept 12 - there will be a phasing in over a full 12 months - so that allows settings to decide if will be doing at 2 or 3 or any time inbetween..

So plenty of time to get our head around it all.

The revised EYFS requirement is to give the check to the parent. Settings must liaise with the parent regarding the timing of the check, ideally before the HV check but this is not a requirement. It may be that in some areas HVs will coordinate with childcare settings and this is certainly the aim (according to Bernadette Duffy who did our training) but it will be 2015 or later before this happens as the medics & educationalists cannot agree a common ground

Yes our local 2 year checks are done virtually on the child's 2nd birthday and so no-one would have done the report for parents to give HV and apparently they aren't changing it so what a waste of time. We were told that all settings a child attends would legally have to compile a report for parents to show HV's.

It's good to know they are reading the guidance and getting their facts right

The document on the www.foundationyears.org.uk website is clear on the requirements... and it does not say the same as you have been told.
