    Default 'clean' messy play?

Any ideas for 'clean' messy play. little one 20 months does not like paint, glue, goop, dough. Did dried pasta which he loved and done water which he loved (but did not like it with bubbles), he didn't like sand. Any more ideas?

or blob paint onto paper and tape cling film over it, he can push the paint around without getting messy and has something to show for it too

water with bubbles ? you can colour it and put lots of different things in, animals, just cups and pourers, sponges.
if you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got

    Default Sticky back frames

Different coloured dried pulses(or rice with food colouring on)... In different pots so mindiee can choose what colour they are using.
Cut a square (could be any shape) cardboard frame, stick the frame to some clear sticky back plastic and cut around the outside edge, leaving a clear sticky square inside the frame,
Attach the frame to the table sticky side up, (I use weights on top and or blue tack underneath) to stop mindiee picking the frame up.
Mindie can place pulses on top making a picture, if they have left any space all you need to do is push another piece of card on top of their picture giving it a background and stopping anything falling out. sometimes a couple of staples or some double sided tape is needed around the non sticky frame.
Leaves kids clean and tidy, but your floor will need a sweep!!!

This method can be used for framing loads of other things too, leaves in autumn, petals in spring, or photos that you want to be a bit more durable. Or any picture to be made into posh calendars or cards for parents.

This takes a bit of prep on your part so might be difficult as a spur of the moment thing with a lot of kids.
Hope this helps and I have explained properly,

    Jesse x

cheap gel in plastic wallets, gaffer taped together.
You can put glitter, buttons, beads etc inside it and the lo's can push them around.
If you put another wallet behind too so you can insert different pictures/scene.
I put different sized buttons into the gel then different vehicle pictures without wheels into the wallet at the back. The lo's move the buttons around to make wheels on the vehicles

    In our tray today we had;
Corn flakes, rice crispies, red lentils, porridge oats, rice and large pasta shells.

    Mindee's were 1yr, 2yrs & 3yrs.

We looked at shape, size, texture, smell, taste (Just the corn flakes & rice crispies!!).
We listened to the sounds they made, crunching, rain sound if poured from a height, marching feet sound if patted etc.

They have used their hands, spoons and ladels to scoop, they have used paper cups and bowls to fill and empty.
They have had the plastic animals in the tray and driven cars through it. They have hidden cotton reels and dug for burried treasure.

They are now worn out and fast asleep

Just had my delivery this morning!!
Next question is...having never used them before!...how do you use them?
Do you give them as new with the water and they play as they expand, or do you get a load to expand and then play with them?
Sounds silly really, at 43 you would have thought I could figure it out , but I thought I'd ask you seasoned players first for thr best way!!

These look so much fun, I can't tell the size from the picture though - I would be terrified one of the children would swallow one and it would swell up - or am I being really thick?!?

Wait till they expand. They will be size of a marble and could be a choking hazard so need close supervision with lo's. Lovely feel to them and look lovely on a light box( excess water wiped off first tho)
To shrink them again I put in a container on the radiator with kitchen towel, takes a couple of days, replenish kitchen towel daily.
Must get some zip lock bags for my 11mth as she eats everything too

Cover a blackboard with chalk, then give them a wet paintbrush to make marks on it. They will invariably end up cleaning it completely - result!
