    Default Sensory/messy play for babies

Can anyone give me some ideas to use for sensory play for babies (ones that put everything in their mouth!)? Aged 9/10 months. It's one of those things I know I'm not very good at doing so I need some inspiration.

All ages love the bubble wrap parcels sealed with duct tape with paint squeezed inside it. Squishes around and changes colour and crinkles.

Cooked spaghetti is very popular here, as is gloop and jelly, and water coloured with food colouring. For littlies who don't like the wet/messy sensation I've used lots of brightly coloured ribbons before and that was popular.

A big box of shredded paper can be fun, especially if you hide something nice in the bottom.

Old socks filled with newspaper, make a good crinkly noise.

Flour and water mixed in to a paste in a tray to swirl fingers in.

Clear plastic bags full of lentils. Good to squish and push around.

On of my mindees loves playing with balls of wool, he rubs them on his face and drags them around the floor. After a while the balls unravel and my sitting room looks like a giant spiders web!

ooh I'm loving this thread!! What fab ideas!

I acquired a bag of shredded paper from an estate agents last week - it was amazing - they were absorbed with it for a good 2-3 hours! They were scooping it, throwing it up in the air, lying and rolling in it, then later getting little boxes and scooping up and filling in. I was amazed at how engaged they were with this and how many different ideas they thought of. Probably wouldn't be that ideal for babies that eat everything!

I also did feathers once which was lovely - soft feeling and tickly on the face and watched with amazement when floated down but I had the same problem as you as the littlest one started to eat them - and he wasn't even that little!

I have one like that. It was a plant tray from a garden center with extra large sides.

Mine like jelly and squinty cream, the older ones squirt the cream the younger ones eat it.
