Outside blackboard

I want to put a blackboard outside, fixed to the fence/wall so had thought about painting a piece of wood with blackboard paint but can anyone tell me of it will it need to be a specific type of wood and will it be ok to leave outside or will it get ruined due to rain etc?

I've in the past had only made of ply I recoated it every now and then it lasted for few years.
