    What about using real bricks?

We had smallish ones that had been used as a border in the garden which we had taken up, I had put them in a pile to move. when I had my Pre reg and was talking through my garden ra the inspector asked why I wanted to remove them as the children would enjoy using them etc.
So I have kept them and the kids have enjoyed building/ transporting with them and much cheaper than the pretend ones

I would use real bricks if the children were older , they are only 2 and 3 , so they would be too heavy and potentially they could drop them on toes , scrape legs etc

I cant find the chad valley ones , only plastic giant lego type bricks which isnt really what im looking for

Ill keep an eye on ebay

A bit of weight and heavy lifting is good for little ones. Don't under estimate them. If I was going to have bricks in my yard then I would definitely prefer to give the kids something with weight and substance rather than foam, lightweight things. Then again, I prefer to go down the real road for everything . I am happy for my 2 year old to use real tools, real glassware, real wherever possible.

That's what I had thought too but ofsted were very keen for me to use them, but as I say they are a bit smaller than normal size bricks so not as heavy.

Hope u find some soon :-)

ok , well I was thinking of the normal sized house bricks but what about the little paving blocks that people have their drives made from I can imagine them picking those up without a problem

I think youve talked me into it

Ive already got the 12ft carpet tubes which im going to cut down to make ramps and building blocks

and im trying to scrounge some old tyres that i can use as seating , also fill with soil for digging

im trying to create an area in the garden where they can experiment with lots of different materials

Buy Chad Valley Blocks - Mega Pack at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for Construction toys.

not sure if link works but if not go to Argos and type in Chad Valley lego and it will bring up in sale - think you need 2 packs though to be worthwhile

I have the tts bricks and they were 72 inclusive of the p & P for 25 bricks, so may be a bargain on e-bay (:
