mothers day ideas anyone?
Anyone got any quirky ideas for things for my little ones to make there mummies? I did the teabag in a teapot shaped card last year !!
-
My daughter did one of those tea bag cards at school year.
I've decided to do Fridge magnets, either with card so they're light or maybe with salt dough, will try one myself first to check it will stick.
I ordered the adhesive magnet strip (cut it to size) and it arrived yesterday, 5 metres for £3.05 including delivery.

I'm a bit of a book fiend and my DS made me a lovely bookmark at preschool last year - his fingerprints/finger painting with a little photo of him in the middle, cut to a bookmark shape and laminated. I'm going to attempt something similar with the mindees this year as they're only little ones.
I'll try and get a photo uploaded to show you what I mean...

And on the reverse was 'Happy Mother's Day 2012, love from DS' (he'd written his name himself which was soooo cute)

We did a card similar to this last year with a Mothers day poem instead of whats written on the pot
Keepsake Handprint Calendar: September Handprint Flowers with Poem
Here's the poem
I've made some March flowers
With my fingers and thumbs
So you'll have these memories
For all the years to come

Love this!!! Older ones can extend by making prints and turning them into animals/running men etc. Thank you

Whats the teabag teapot activity all about, never heard of it?

Love the handprint flowers Cherry, thankyou!
We are going to decorate flower pots and plant some nice flowers in them this year so will this tie in perfectly
I have done the teabag idea (Becky, it's a teapot shaped card that the lo's decorate and you stick a teabag on the inside so mum can have a cup of tea, (hopefully in peace, lol!) and sent home a slice of chocolate cake with it, did it for the dads aswell but sent home cookies with theirs.
Love the bookmark idea aswell, might save that for next year
Previously have also bought some cheap baskets with handles, decorated them and put polyanthus in them, and made chocolate truffles wrapped in decorated boxes and ribbons. I seem to alternate between food and flowers, lol!

Flowers out of tissue paper

I have been tasked with organising for school as well as my mindees so have come up with a cunning plan. Potting a small plant or bulb for mum and then letting them decorate the pots either with stickers etc or by creating a piece of paper/card that can be wrapped around the pot and they can decorate however they like e.g with handprints etc prior to sticking it on the pot and potting the plant.
I really liked it as it involved all kinds of EYFS elements, how sad am I?

We look on activity village for a nice 'happy mothers day' poster, print out then the children colour in and decorate their poster, I take a photo of them holding the finished poster, print that and they stick it on a card and decorate around the edges. We mount the poster on a nice piece of card too.

Ive ordered some plant pots from Baker Ross that are plastic but have a special coating on so children can crayon on them- be interesting. Then we are going to plant some seeds and i have a planting stick ? That the children are going to decorate. I like the tea bag idea is there a poem or anything that goes with it ?

Thank you for the website, just looked seems brilliant.

I thought this was lovely to put on the front of a card and even my two 14 month old LO's will be able to do their own version, maybe with handprints instead of risking them drinking the brown paint!?

Just looked at the Baker Ross website, it is brilliant for resources & ideas....so much cheaper than my local arts & crafts shop.

These are nice for mom or you could do them anyway for spring

You could plant a sunflower in a pot and put a poem with it
"A Mother is like a flower
On a sunny summer day.
You'd pick her in a minute
If you could have your way.
A Mother is like the sunshine;
She warms your heart each day
And makes you feel like smiling.
It's just her special way."

One year we made cardboard flowers and wrote in the middle "I love my mum because" and on each of the petals something the children said about their mum - the older ones wrote their own. Mums loved them

Keep smiling!

best thing I ever received was a personalised glass. Just a cheap glass was bought and the lo's used glass paint to personalise. It would depend on the age of the lo's though.

I have bought cheap terracotta pots from garden centre 55p each, mindees can paint them and varnish them with watered down pva glue and plant a polyantha (coloured primrose) in them - got a pack in lidls last week quite cheap - just have to keep them alive 2 more weeks til mothers day!
