Default Talk like a pirate day......19th Sept

International 'Talk like a pirate' day is on 19th Sept.
I thought I would share my planning with you

PSED - Dressing up as Pirates, chatting about what we are wearing and what it would be like to live like a pirate.
PD - Using a balance beam play walking the plank. Make a pirate ship den.
CL - Learn, sing and dance to pirate songs.
LIT - Talk like a pirate and learn new vocab ie: treasure, parrot, jolly roger etc. Follow a treasure map which will lead to the hidden treasure.
MATH - Play a pirate 'matching pairs' game. Find the hidden treasure in the sand pit by spooning, sifting the sand and counting the coins as we find them and sharing them out evenly between us.
UW - Look at oceans on a map of the world, talk about what we can find under the sea (this can lead onto an 'under the sea' topic).
EAD - using cardboard boxes make and decorate a treasure chest and a treasure map.

Hope this has given you some ideas to build on, have fun

Thank you, this is really useful, weirdly enough I have been doing pirate things last week!

I have been making pirate's hats with cereal boxes and swords with rolled up newspaper, got the idea from here

This is such a good idea, there are so many pirate activities but I found it harder getting songs. I'd stick to something I know like Bobby Shafto, other than trying to learn a new song for the day

What about "A sailor went to sea, sea, sea to see what he could see, see, see"

and "When I was one I sucked my thumb the day I went to sea, I jumped aboard a pirate ship and the captain said to me"

"The Big ship sails on the ali ali o" - can't be bothered to look up spelling!

"I saw 3 ships come sailing in, sailing in, sailing in on Christmas day in the morning"

Sure there must be other boat songs
link it to other kinds of boat - eg Row row your boat, and yellow submarine

Oooh arrr me hearties...corny corny corny.
Actually has anyone got the Wiggles DVD with Captain Feathersword (he's a good bloke!) very Australian tongue in cheek kids entertainment? We have two copies, my now five year old daughter loved it when she was smaller.
