Default I'm making Autumn colour planters this week.....

Hi everyone, thought I would share - there are lovely terracotta pots in poundland at the moment, about 30cm across, and Aldi is selling Autumn colour plug plants and multi packs this Thursday - heather, pansies, primroses etc - I'm going to use up the rest of this year's potting compost and make Autumn planters with the children..... just thought it might inspire some of you!

Sounds lovely. So, as a person who can recognise daisies, buttercups, dandelions, roses and pansies, do pansies survive Autumn? If I was to plant some up now how long would they last? What other plants are hardy enough to cope with autumn (and kids).

I have some lovely wooden planters going to waste in my backyard, and a couple of days with nothing much planned....

pansies, violas, primulas will all tough it out, and start flowering again once the weather warms up the other side of winter - ivy is nice in there, the heather will survive too....... then you can tart them up with some summer plants next May!!! Jen x

In a sheltered spot winter pansy flower really well - we had some peaking through the snow last year!

It's the perfect time for collecting seeds to sow next spring too.
