    We were making Christmas pictures in frames last week and I wanted the children to draw or colour a festive picture to put in the frame. As always, I give them a choice of plain paper, for doing their own thing, or printed pictures if they want to colour in something specific.

    Two of them (a 3 yr old and a 4 yr old) decided they wanted printed pictures. We spent ages searching the internet for the pictures they wanted - a Care Bear holding a flower and a dinosaur sunbathing on the beach - not my idea of festive pictures, but I went with their choice. We printed them out, the children sat at the table with the art caddy... then turned the pictures over, drew their own thing on the back and cut the paper into tiny pieces before saying they wanted to colour their Care Bear and dinosaur! They had a pile of plain paper on the table with them so could easily have used that instead of the printed sheets
