Childminder Agencies – Bill on its way to the House of Lords.
Have your say, email us at: opinions@*************
Following our meeting in Westminster this week we have just been informed that the proposals for childminder agencies, that are contained in the Children and Families Bill (Children and Families Bill 2012-13 to 2013-14 — UK Parliament) was passed by the House of Commons on Tuesday evening. However, the Bill will now have to go through all the stages in the House of Lord’s before becoming law.
It is our understanding that The House of Lords scrutinises Bills that have been approved by the House of Commons. It regularly reviews and amends Bills from the Commons. While it is unable to prevent Bills passing into law, except in certain limited circumstances, it can delay Bills and force the Commons to reconsider its decisions.
Because this Bill has now been passed through the House of Commons the fear is that the damage may have already been done and that childminder agencies will become a reality.
However, we will still continue to inform Government, in particular the spokesperson for Education in The House of Lords with any opinions you provide to us ahead of the final decision. So please ‘Have Your Say’ and email us at opinions@************* with your views on any of the above along with any other concerns you want to raise.
In light of Tuesday’s events the UKCMA would like to reassure all childminders that we are committed to whole heartedly supporting those childminders who choose to remain independent and we pledge to provide continuous help, guidance and support to help you maintain your independent status.
Many thanks,
The UKCMA team
