If you register with HMRC and do it online it's really easy and takes you through each bit. Don't leave it till the last minute though as they have to send you an access code.

Keep accurate records of your income and expenditure (write down what you've spent when you spend it or you might forget!)

Do it monthly - don't leave it until the end of the tax year!

This is what I promise I'll do each year but never do!

    Keep smiling!

    Hi,
    just wondering
where do you get the access code??
do you ring them, or email them?
is there a link that takes you to an application?
I got my UTR number the other week, what do I do next to start filling in my tax assessment form?? as I was not aware that you would have to apply for an access code.

The new short tax form is now so much easier and the online form even better.

I did mine in April and had their reply back in May, so now I dont have to worry about it.

you need to speak to HMRC and they will send you the code.
I received a plastic credit card size thing with my access code on and have stuck it to the inside of my box file with accounts in so I don't lose it
You use the same code year after year so when you get it filing online is pretty straight forward.
