    Default Accounts on computer

I'm just finishing this years accounts (2008/2009), I'm organised for once in my life and ahead of myself!

Anyhow to make life even easier next tax year I'd like to do my accounts on the computer.

Can anyone reccomend the best way to do this.....is there a package you use?

I do all my accounts on the computer and if you pm me I can email it to you. Need to know if you do mileage or depreciation too.

Note that this is something I have written and not approved by IR.

I use Quicken for my home accounts which is a great package and had I not got it after I started childminding I would have used it. It takes you to Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss.

My understanding is that even if you keep your accounts on a computer you still have to have paper copies.

Too much work for me to duplicate everything!

I keep paper copies of my annual sheet as it needs to be signed.

all others are stored on a disc just incase my pc goes belly up as i cant go through the hassle of redoing it all.

keep copies safe somewhere as a backup its not worth relying on a pc to store important information all on its own.

I use a spreadsheet for expenses which is split into dif headings - water %, gas/elec %, food/drink, trips/toddler groups, craft materials, toys, equipment etc and one for recording what parents pay.

I use the formulas to total everything up as I go along.

I split receipts up into monthly piles and store them in envelopes or plastic pockets and save receipts on to computer/disk/store email for things I have brought online instead of printing them off all the time. However should inland revenue want to see my accounts, I would have to print them off

I then print off a summary sheet that shows my monthly & yearly expenses and monthly/yearly income for my reference and to refer to when doing my online tax form.

Iv attached a blank copy which is out of date as I think I can claim more for things like water, gas/elec but if gives u an idea. I have one for each month but you can do it so it is all saved as 1 file rather than 12 dif files if that makes sense

    Hope that makes sense

I put mine directly into the computer and print off the 12 monthly sheets and 1 yearly sheet at the end of the year.
