    Default ANNUAL BOILER SERVICE

Hi, just wondering if I can put any of the cost of my annual boiler service through my books. I pay just over £15 a month for boiler cover which includes an annual boiler check. I didn't have this cover for the two or three years before *****minded.

    Thanks

It is a grey area - I would advise talking to the HMRC for advice

As said, it's a grey area. If you were not a childminder would you not ever have your boiler serviced or checked?

I think it is a no go as you are not just having this check for childminding, it will benefit your home, energy costs , the sale of a house too as it will improve your home to have an efficient boiler so therefore you are benefitting personally, not your Childminding business.

Just because you didn't pay for it before childminding doesn't mean you only do it for childminding, you just chose previously not to maintain your service for your boiler, lots of people ensure they have an annual service and are not childminders.

One of my mindee's dad is a gas safe engineer he said he can't believe it isn't compulsory to have the boiler serviced and to have a gas safety check each year - as a landlord of a rented property you have to have a gas safety check done each year for the tenants. I can see his point and think that the gas safety check should be compulsory as that's the same sort of thing as an MOT on a car.

I don't pay an monthly fee, I just pay for the service

I have mine serviced annually, treat it like the car.

I claim actual costs on my house not the percentages so the accountant claims some of this too
