Hi

I have an after schoolie aged 4 who has been with me for 2 months. Today I get a text from his mum who is very worried as yesterday he went to the dentist and had to have a filling, his 4th in the last 6mths mum said . She has asked me to not give him anything sugary to eat or drink, no fruit juice, he can have fruit to eat and is allowed pudding with his main meal. She has asked for my advice as to what she can do as she is worried. Have you any suggestions I can put to her. I'm not sure what his diet at home is like. Is it possible that children can just be prone to weak teeth?

Yes children can have weak teeth and it could be many factors.

Too much sugar comes in forms of fruit juice, raisins are very bad, juice given in a bottle as a small child or even milk has sugar in it. A child left to fall asleep with a bottle and the sugar is on their teeth all night.
Baby juices are really bad and very high in sugar.
Also children being unsupervised when brushing as they dont always brush in all the right places.
