what is the most children under 5 you can have without variation is it 3.

Yes 3 under five 6 under 8 if that is what you have on your Cert. You may be registered for less if you have young children of your own live in a small home or in a first floor or higher flat.

No have none of my own grown up. house is big. So we cannot get them to increase if we ask as ive got none over 3 only 9 and 11 after school.

In which case the max they would reg for is 3 under five. You would have to get individual variations if you wanted 4 under 5s

You stated 'We' if you work with an assistant or co-minder then you can request a variation to increase your numbers whilst working with an assistant

3 children under 5 is the norm. You can ask for variations in certain conditions, normally for continuity of care i.e. a new sibling or a parent that needs to change hours. They do not normally grant variations in numbers for new business. If a variation is granted they ask for times, days and names of children that would be present and it would only apply in those circumstances agreed so if a child left you could not replace under that variation IYSWIM. You would also need to show how you would be able to cope with the extra child and show that it would not be at the detriment of the other under 5 children in your care.
