I have had 2 lindam gates since DS was about 3 months old, he's just turned 3 and both are still working just fine.

I have always used lindam or babydan - currently got rid of most (going down the whole "children should learn and respect boundaries" route) and now just have a lindam roller blind style one at the bottom of the stairs as a safety feature xx

TOO MANY!!!

I can't stand my safety gates, I have one going to the stairs and one into the kitchen and I ****** ****** HATE them! The only reason I have it in the kitchen is because of my dogs, but when we move they are going to live outside so I may be able to get rid of the safety gate :D

i don't use them.

but, i did have a lindam extendable one that we used 6/7 - 9 years ago across the french windows of an old house! it was very simple/basic and you just lifted it into its holder.

I have been minding for 17 years now and still have the gate that we bought for my daughter (she is 19) which I can still use I also have 2 Lindham wooden gates that I have had for 8 years and they are still going string. So in all my minding years I have never replaced one.

I use Ikea ones which are screwed to the wall - obviously will show if we take them down but figured we are in this for the long haul! Very hard wearing - we bought 1 when our littlest was tiny and he's now nearly 8

I had a plastic Tomy one in my old house - got rid of it cos I hated it but it did fill the arch between kitchen and living room. Lasted too long for my liking!

got Lindam pine ones now - lasting well

Thats it in 17 years :)

I've had the same one for 18 years - it gets tightened up occasionally but is otherwise fine.

It's a wooden one that goes right across the stairs and fastens with a twist at the side. :D

We have Lindam ones. Been up for nearly 6 years. The catch on the kitchen one (this has the heaviest use) has just bust and you can get new bits easily and reasonably priced from the very helpful people there.

My Ds fell down the stairs once and broke the fixing on one side - I emailed them and got a spare.

He was about 10 at the time

My dog has broken 2!! the mindees have pulled the one off the stairs so many times, by climbing and swinging on it, that the part of the wall opposite the newel post is now entirely polyfiller! I'm expecting more to go soon as mindees will not stop climbing on them or banging them shut when I've left them open.

Honestly sometime I wish we didn't have any!

This is one of the reasons I swapped to the roller blind style - no matter how many times I told them they just kept swinging on/banging them and I could foresee an accident!! x
