notice how its only got 2 signatures!!! Seeing I can only take another 2 under 5s as I have an 18 month old of my old, would me working for a maximum of £4.00 per hour, while also feeding their children etc, petrol for school runs blah, be even worth it?? If they get anywhere with their stupid petition the next petition will be to get government run childcare. Every decent childminder would have gone bankrupt!!!

I used to charge £1.80 fourteen years ago, no way could I afford that now. when our council did an audit on childcare in our area they calculated in order to earn an equivalent wage to a nursery worker (not manager) we should be charging £8 an hour.

Is this woman having a laugh. I know we don't childmind for the money (£4.25 hour that i charge is still under minimum wage) but £2hr isn't worth getting out of bed for and I for one would give up childminding if this did ever happen(not that that's likely).

Hahaha, what a plonker, there will just be NO childminders, like it could happen anyway were self employed I can charge £100 an hour if I want it's nowt to do with the government (cant see me getting much buisness though lol)

If we could only charge £2 per hour then there would be no childminders and she would be forced to pay nursery fee's. So wish there was a comment box x

Oh blimey theres a lot of people with funny ideas about CMs around at the moment isn't there lol?! I don't know any childminders who charge minimum wages as fees, we are all well under, in fact most people would probably not bother to get out of bed for the amount of work we do and the money we get paid for doing it:laughing:

Why didn't she remain a childminder and enjoy her £1.80-£2.00 then??!

Errm maybe she realised she wasn't earning much :laughing::laughing:

Cant really write anything sensible to that as its not worth the effort... will I reduce my charges for a day where I can end up covered in sick, food, poo, snot, screamed at, shouted at, work as a referee, chef, nurse, office staff (paperwork) and deal with difficult parents, errr nope

I have been a cm for 17yrs and charged £2.25 ph when I started.

I bet the silly woman pays more for her hair dos and nails :laughing::laughing: So we can see where her priorities are can't we.

£2 an hour?!!!! Is she having a giraffe?!!!!

As I'm in Scotland I can only have 3 under 5 and 3 over 5's. No over 8's rule.

So 6 max. As that includes my own 3 boys I could never be on more than £6 an hour. Which is less than minimum wage.

Actually speechless!!

Obviously not many people agree with her as only 2 people have signed it so far, I really don't know what planet this women us on lol

I charged my first family £2 per hour over 10 years ago, only charge £3.65 per hour now and that includes everything(food/trips etc) apart from nappies. I would like to see her go back to that rate - maybe she can earn a decent wage from it after paying for everything !!!

If the goverment went ahead I would be waving goodbye

Couldn't believe what she wrote ... What's the childcare element of working tax credit for then? She's either earning to much or not working enough hours if she doesn't qualify for help with childcare fees.

what an idiot...she is probably thinking 4 children at £2 an hour is £8 an hour which sounds good, but, what about the expenses and if you don't have or can't have four full time paying children like me....I have 2 lo's under 5 so can only have one full time child.

I think she needs a reality check and :p to her petition

It doesn't close until September. I have book marked it to see how many signatures she gets.

I don't see what the government would do. Also parents actually don't know how lucky they are these days on the whole.

My daughter went to a cm when she was 6 mths old 19 years ago. I was earning £10,000 a year a good wage then and my daughters childcare fees cost 75% of my net income. I had no tax credits to help, no 15hrs free playgroup, no Childcare Vouchers. Obviously it was my choice to go back to work or not. We had my dh income as well.

It was because of the sums that I registered as a cm. I earned as much disposable income by having one child 4 hours every afternoon term time only and I got to be at home with my children.

I'll do it for free cos if I charge £2 thats what I'll basically be doing.

Shes just thinking of herself and her own pocket, no thought or consideration to the poor person who has to work for that amount.
Who wants to send their child to an overworked/underpaid childminder?

ha ha - daft woman! She has 2 signatures and one of them is obviously her own! I've never heard of Ofsted or HMRC trying to get childminders to charge min wage either! That would be like shooting themselves in the foot! Especially when the govt contribute to so many peoples childcare! What is min wage anyway? £6.08! I don't know any childminder that charges that?!

What she doesn't say is when she was a childminder or even if she was registered! I am not sure how we would survive on as little is this, what she forgets is that we are working too, would love to earn a decent wage but can't because most of the money would go on childcare which wouldn't be available if this woman got her way! and we want to be at home with our kids and watch them develop etc.

She really wants a slave who will live in the basement, do all the cooking, cleaning and childcare. And the sad fact is, many people do this. There should be a lobby against those people who enslave others

good god........................ :eeeek:

and as we're sefl-employed, how could it possibly even be put into practice. I know, lets make ALL self employed people (plumbers. sparkies. I could go on...) charge £2 an hour then it'll be fair on everyone. Right?????

Thats just given me the best giggle this weekend

I was charging about £2 per hour 19 years ago. We now charge £45 per day or £5 per hour and recently worked out how much we (hubby and I both registered) earned per hour. Taking into account the fact that we work a 55hr week and certaintly are not full for all of these hours. Our calculations were £2.25 per hour each

This women is definately living in cuckoo land:laughing:

Someone near me charges £2 per hour :( That's for full time hours, £2.50 for part time hours. I just couldn't do it, my profits are low enough as it is on £3.50ph (which is the average fee around here.)
