This morning at the school we drop to and collect from a mother has been hit by a lorry. She ran into the road to push a child out of the way.

This has happened at the main road leading into the school where there was lots of childrens and their carers arriving for school.

My co-minder did the drop off this morning and said they held back from the scene so the children didnt witness the accident. Once the scene had been shielded form view they continued into school.

How horrible this has been for the people involved and all those witnessed. Not sure how the children are going to cope as I'm sure atleast 80% of the school is going to know what has happened.

This has made me wanna make sure even more now though that the children I collect and drop off hold my hand or the pushchair. Its pretty scary just to think about it. I hope also that the local council will rethink about the safety of children around the entrance to the school. Funding was dropped for a lollypop lady. The school is in a close and it isnt obvious there is a school there at all. I also hope road safety is taught in schools so that something like this can maybe prevented in the future.

How awful. Unfortunately it often takes something horrible to happen for any action to be taken.

Do you know how the mum is doing?

This is terrible news - and unfortunatley any one of us could be involved in something like this - considering the speed of traffic and the numbers of cars about at school drop off and pick up times.

I hope there is some good news about the mum soon.

I am sure by the time they come home your mindees are going to know all about it (even though your co minder protected them from seeing to much) as I am sure those that did see things will be very shocked and will need to talk about it.

You must be very shaken up, :group hug: what an awful thing for everyone connected to her and the school.

What a brave woman. Doesn't bear thinking about what the injuries would have been to the child she pushed out of the way :(

Hope she makes a full recovery, bless her.

Oh my goodness what an awful thing to happen. I hope the woman will be ok.

Our council has stopped most funding for Lollypop persons - we have 2 schools, a junior and an infants opposite each other, we used to have 2 lollypop people but no more and we really need them back!

I saw on newspaper site that she was dragged along under lorry and had to be rescued from underneath it. Serious but not life threatening leg injuries

It was very quiet up the school yesterday when I went too collect. I think it had shaken everyone. Parents were holding their childrens hands or telling them to stay close.

The children didnt really say a lot and we didnt ask the children aboout it.

I have heard that the mum may lose her leg which is so sad.

Poor brave lady!

You probably should ask the children how they feel about it though. They're going to need some support to deal with something as scary as that.
