Hi,
How do you record the childs starting ponts ? I have been doing it on the EYFS development sheet for the childs age range, but it's not working for me. I don't think the parents understand half of the wording and the statements can be interpretated in so many different ways.
Would you mind sharing how you do yours ?
Thank you oh helpful ones !! :)

You watch and listen and note what the child can do / cannot do.

You ask parents and fill in the blanks.

Just write it down in normal English - I use a lot of I CAN statements because I find them really positive...

I CAN - make marks on paper with a crayon

I CAN - give meaning to the marks I make

Then I note what is happening against the Development Matters document in the Eyfs. :D

..just wish to add - if your new mindee has come from another setting, ask parents to see their development forms/paperwork/learning journals from their previous minder or nursery - photocopy bits you need like the child's last assessments and observations and use them as part of your starting points xx
