A new Childminder has put a post on Facebook asking if anyone has got a fire extinguisher, I have a fire blanket, do you now need a fire extinguisher?

My last fire brigade visit told me that they really do not recommend extinguishers.

We need to get the children out and call them to deal with it properly not risk lives and make a mess.

So no we are not required to have them - certainly not in England.

I am not sure about Wales or Scotland?? :D

No. Not in England anyway. You really need to be trained to use one as well.

If there was a fire to be honest my priority would be to get out, not trying to play fireman. That was exactly the recommendation of the firemen when i had my home safety check done.

Having worked in the catering trade for many years, i would not use a Fire Blanket either! Again you really need training and practice using them they can be more dangerous in unskilled hands.

The fire brigade don't recommend we use fire extinguishers or blankets for the above reasons.

Saying that I do have both, but mainly as DH used to be a firefighter
