i think someone may correct me if I'm wrong, but I think as you're only just self-employed you won't have to do the self-assessment tax return until NEXT January (2013)??

Yes, thats right. you wont need to do your tax return til 31 January 2013 if you do it online.

I do mine at the end of each tax year in April. If i wanted until later in the year i'd forget, we also get tax credits so they need to know my income by July.

Your tax return won't come through until after end of this tax year - around april. You'll then have up until end of Jan 2013 to get it back to them. HTH XXX :)
