I took over a toddler group run out of my local school about 2 years ago and sometimes I would set up only to have maybe 1 other person pitch up. It was so demoralizing - so I took action!! I drew up an action plan which really blew off the cobwebs, I put in place a proper snack time with loads of fresh veg and fruit and a yummy carb treat, fresh home made cakes for the parents and carers, an activity every week, linking up with the local preschool once a month, end of term outings subsidised by the group, circle time with singing, sticky kids or stories. Just got back from the most amazing morning - around 20 familes came today with their combined 30 children. This included 7 new familes who had never been before. It was friendly and vibrant the new people joined in and talked to other people, the children played beautifully and we had an amazing sticky kids session at the end.
I just want to cry - happy tears - its finally taken off, all the perserverance and changes have made it a fabulous weekly session and I am just really chuffed. As a childminder in the local community I feel that I champion our profession really well to all these parents, we attract some really lovely childminders as well who are all great ambassadors as well and I feel utterly content right now.
So there was me thinking first session of new year would be a bit quiet - it was an absolute fabulous riot!!! :clapping:
