I have done Houses and Homes topics with a variety of different ages. Some of the things I have done are:

- Read the 3 Little Pigs (I have puppets too).
- Based on story cut out house shaped template - 3 for each child - and stick hay, or straw, onto the template for one little pig, twigs for another, and for the bricks I used printed paper and drew some bricks on it, cut into strips for the children to stick on.
- Using blankets and cushions to make dens
- Junk modelling using cereal boxs or juice cartons to design a house
- Talk about animals and the types of homes they live in (The Gruffalo is quite nice for this too with treetop house, logpile house etc)
- using wooden blocks to build a house like structure - even a tower

Older children can use Lego; a dolls house; create an igloo using ice cubes; make a nest using twigs

I hope that has given you some ideas

You could spend weeks thinking about animal homes, making dens, going for bear hunts in the woods etc :D
