Christmas is a really important time of year to us as a family, but this year I am a childminder! I have one family at the moment and I have told them that I will be taking Sat 24th til Monday 2nd off, which is 10 days. I am wishing I had also taken 23rd, and did want to do this but felt bad - can you believe?!! I am back for a week and then the family are taking holiday so I will have another week off, so I can't really complain.

What are you taking?

I have no children myself but my mum (co-minder) is off on holiday for a couple of days over new year. I plan to shut on the friday (23rd) evening and open again the 28th for any parents who desperately need childcare. I dont want to lose to much money during the holidays. I can't see many of my parents needing it but I will offer it incase. I will obviously close the friday evening before new year and then reopen on the 2nd Jan. This is when all the schools go back.

I'm taking 10 days off, it's the only time my children can have me completely to themselves.

We are closed from the 23rd Dec until the 2nd Jan this year. We are hoping to visit our family abroad, so hoping for good weather this year as we got stuck in the UK last year because of the snow at Heathrow and didn't get away on time (had to postpone Christmas Day). So we are hoping to get it right this year!

I usually take a week or so - but this year, cos my husband has been out of area since July and will only be back the week before christmas, I am taking the entire school holiday off. This is nearly 3 weeks.

I'm off the 22nd Dec and back on the 3rd Jan - I used to play the brinkmanship game with the parents and hope they would book off first so I still get paid but can't be bothered these days

My last day is 22nd. Was planning to go back on 3rd but might now take until 4th off as it means I can arrange an appointment I need to attend for then and not have to worry about letting parents know i need a day off with like 2 weeks notice!

I had planned to finish on 23rd and start back again on 3rd Jan. Sadly 2 mindees have left last month but that means I can break earlier on 21st :)

I've just informed parents that I will finish on Weds 21st Dec and reopen Weds 4th Jan - they all seem happy with this (but if they're not ...... tough!). I obviously lose out on 2 weeks pay but would much rather have the time off with my own kids.

I've just agreed today that I'll work right up to (and including) xmas eve!! I normally work Saturdays anyway so it's just bad luck for me that it has fallen on a Sat this year. I'll then be working 30th and 31st Dec and then start back again on 3rd Jan! I really, really need the money this year and my 2 full-time mindees are almost like family now anyway......so I thought what the hell I'll just work!

Being at home with my family whilst I work is better than being out at work missing my boys....so I'm just gong to accept the slight compromise of having extra kids at home and enjoy myself regardless!
