Hi, I was just wondering what the general opinion is of advertising for business when you are not actually ofsted registered? I understand that it is a big no-no to practice as a childminder if un-registered, but I'm just trying to be organised and get clients on my books ASAP so I have mindees when my certificate comes through. Has anyone else done this, or is it frowned upon?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated :) x

Hi im in Scotland so not Ofsted but would think it would be similar.
You can advertise as long as you clearly state that you are in the process of registering and not actually registered yet.
Unfortunately the time taken to register differs greatly so there is no way of knowing an exact date when you would be registered.
I was allowed to advertise after my officer had been out for my pre reg and had done her report and sent me the conditions of my reg - cos then the only reason it wouldnt go ahead is if i had stopped it.
hth :D

I advertised quite aggressively the three months I was pre reg then when I registered I had 3 signed contracts the first week. Definitely worth it imo.
I was quite up front about being pre reg however.
I also had a lot of visits from the families and met at parks, pool etc over the summer so they know me and felt happy to start right away.
cheers,

I set up my website quite early on, so it had plenty of time to be noticed by search engines, but I didn't really start advertising until after I had my pre-reg visit, mostly because I had no idea how long it would take to get to that point (and in my case, that was about 7 months) so I didn't want to have people waiting and not be able to take them on.
