I've just had a text from a parent saying ' Hi can I pay you this weeks money next week coz I want to go out tomorrow night and can't afford to if I pay you coz I've seen a lovely dress I'd like to get as well'. To say I was gobsmacked is an understatment. xx

Make sure you slap on extra charges for delayed payment. Then her dress/night out won't seem so good
So  for you.

Hi, although that has made me chuckle, what a cheeky mare.

Some parents will never get that this is our business not a hobbie. Xx

Maybe you should give her some money to spend to, just so she can really enjoy herself, you could even babysit:rolleyes:

Sorry couldn't resist, the cheek of some people:mad: I hope you told her where to go!! :censored:

people really do amaze dont they!

I charge a late fee of £5 a day... see how she'd like that one!

I'd love to know your reply though.

mine would have read...
"No, I'm a business not a charity. If you need a loan please speak with your bank. Late payments encur a £5 daily penalty."
(my parents are used to me being quite striaght talking though)

Some people!!!

I'd be tempted to say that too but then they might not pay next week either as then they'll owe 2 weeks money.

Better to call back with a firm NO, I think.

I'd have wanted to say f**** off lol
But I'd have probably said that there's a late fee or a firm NO if I needed te money to pay for food / bills etc.
The cheek though!

I'd love to say that I'm surprised, but sadly I'm not.

My response would be along the lines Sunflower used. It's firm, but only firmness has any effect on an attitude like this parent.

What a cheek.

I would of replied "that is fine but as stated in my policies I am unable to care for your child if fees are not paid in full on the first session of the week. Also I will be adding late fees of X a day until fees are paid uptodate."

I have to be honest, if the mum was normally a good payer and this was a one off and I could afford to wait til next week, I would allow it and have done in the past for a couple of my mums.

I must admit I have a mum who is not very reliable at paying. But she never gives me an excuse like that. She occasionally will say money is tight and asks to pay at the end of the week which I know she will. shame on that mum to even text you that excuse. She could have atleast given you a better excuse. Something that didnt make her sound bad like that.

It always makes me think when i read things like this would the parents like their bosses to phone them and ask if its ok to pay late i very much doubt it

One of my friends mums told her she couldn't afford to pay her her money this wel as they were going to Peter Kay on Friday night, she gets tax credits too. Friend was furious but didn't know what to say when put on the spot. I may mention the late payment option see what she says

Or if they would do this for their credit cards or direct debits?

I'd love to know what the OP replied!

I did ask Mum to pay for Fridays fee as I budget my weekly 'wage' and so need the money, however I've said she can pay the second days fee next week as I don't have her child 2 days most weeks so don't include this when working out my weekly budget. I'm just too soft!
