I am just wondering, do we have to do this? Can we not just inform the parent of what their child did that day?

Thanks xx

Hi Jenna, we have to do observations so we can see how the child is developing and to show how what they do links in with the EYFS, and so you can plan effectively. It's a pain I know but we have to do it. x

If the child is under 5 you need to observe them so that you assess their stage of development and interests and then provide activities, resources and support which will help them move on to the next stage in their development. The is a legal requirement. How you record it is up to you but you need to consider how you will provide evidence to Ofsted that you do it if you don't write it down.
