Please could someone help with numbers question I think I know the answer but unsure.

Next year my ds will b classed as a rising 5 and I have had enquiries for 2 more rising 5's so possibly I will have::

DS - rising 5
M1 - rising 5
M2 - rising 5
M3 - 5yrs
M4 - 18mths
DD - 2.5yrs
M5 - 8yrs

this gives me 6 under 8 is this ok or do I need a variation 2 have the 4 under 8's??

If your certificate states 'may care for 6 under 8 at any one time' then you are ok if not I would check with Ofsted.

Yep... Looks ok if you are allowed to have 6 under 8. Depends on what your certificate states as it's different for everyone depending on the space you have in your house

at present it states

may care for no more than 4 children under 8 years: of these, not more than 1 may be early years age group, and of these, 1 may be under 1 year at any one time.

when caring for 4 or 5 year old children who are in full time education, may increase the number in the early years age group by the number of children in full time education

so happy if this the case as I really would like to take on the 2 enquiries as they r old mindees b4 I went on maternity leave.....

As far as i can tell, if you take the wording to mean that you can look after 4 other children as well as your own then you are okay.

Once your little one is in full time school, then you need to ring Ofsted the day she starts to get your certificate changed to say that you can look after 4 under 8 with 2 in the early years age group. You will not be able to look after any other children in the early years age group until you have done this.

When are the other children starting with you? When is your son a rising 5 (ie when does he start full time school?) Are the M1 and M2 in full time school now if not when will they be? Once you have clarified these questions you should be able to get a definate answer.

I know its a bit early but I like to plan ahead, I have known parents since my son was born and we have talked about me having them once they start school together :)

Agree with the others but just be wary as the rising 5 clause does not come into affect until they are attending full-time school(5 days morning and afternoon) some schools stagger the intake DD1 did not start full time until 2 weeks into term but DD2 (different school) went fulltime from day one. I have heard of other schools that keep the children part-time until half term which would mean that they would still be classed as early years group until Nov.

Thanks for all replies

The school that my ds will (hopefully) be going to have settling in days before the summer holidays and then it is full time straight away.

then based on those answers you look good to go.....:clapping: just remember that you need to have the wording on your certificate changed to reflect that you can have 2 in the early years, btu unfortunalty you can only do this once your little has started at full time school :)
