Can someone explain the ratio, to do with the 4/5 year old children?

I was reading the bit in the EYFS about what a young child is etc. I always thought if a 4 year old is at school, they are classed as an over 5? So I could have 3 under 5's but also the 4 year old?

And what about hols?

Ive had an enquiery about a child who will be 5 in June, to do after school from September, so that is fine, but just got me wondering about the under 5's - Ive confused myself!!!

A child who is at school full time, whether aged 4 or 5, is classed as 5...

The child is classed as 5 all the time, not just in term time but in the holidays as well...

The only time you have to be careful is if the child is going through an intial settling-in period at school and doing half days ... then you would need to check your ratios and might need a variation just for those few weeks.

Hope this makes sense! :D

Glad I read this, I didn't realise it was cleared up about 4 year olds being classed as 5 year olds during the holidays too when at full-time school.

Learn something new every day!
