I have looked after mindee (3) for a year now and I don't seem to have managed to progress this little one with playing at all.
She would rather sit on the sofa and not do anything than any of the options I give her. She loves the tv. I did start putting the tv on for her in the morning but she cries when it goes off. She has an early drop off 7am and next mindee doesn't arrive until 8.15am. So now we have tv time after lunch and then I put it on for her in the eve. She is picked up anytime between 7pm and 930pm (yes thats all another story.)
During the day sometimes she will play with mindees, sometimes she wont. She will usually join in games but only if I play too. She doesn't like playing outside and if the other children want to she will sit on the bench watching them usually after a few tears. She's a bright little girl and is very sweet at times, however she can also be hard work. When I spoke to DO she said it could be that parents do lots with her at home, or use the tv too much, but it's usually something they grow out of. So any advice??? All the children I have looked after have always been happy to play, independantly, with other children and do activities, whether it's outside play, puzzles, crafts. I just don't know how to help her. I have spoken to her parents about a few things but they aren't concerned. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you x

I think you are doing all the right things and the child is just one of those who does not particularly enjoy socialising and playing!

Would she be happier sitting with a book? How about quietly drawing with a lap mat on her knee?
