.......to a couple of childminders at school the other day (don't know them that well) and one was saying that when the EYFS comes in that we can start to charge the same rates as nurseries. I looked at them a bit puzzled and said, well I do really now anyway.

To cut a log story short one of these cm's are only charging £18 per day!!

I charge £30 per day!!

The other was £3.00 per hour & I charge £3.70 per hour, soon shut them up, ha ha!!

it's a shame they didn't know any better!

I charge £3.60 per hour, and am dreading moving as the day care is less than £30 a day for 10 hours:( , I'll have to drop right down

No wonder parents shop around for the cheapest deal when people are charging that!

Awful really, they should be looking for quality, not a bargain when it's their child's future they are thinking about! :(

I have to say the cheap £18 a day cm does have a bad reputation & I've been told bad ofsted reports, so there's defo no quality in her care (so I've heard!!).

£18.00 a day

I paid more than that when I went back to work after my youngest son was born.................and that's 20 years ago!

Bet they'll be putting their fees up!

I always research what the Nurseries are charging and charge the same, if not a little more. I see it as, parents who want Childminders because they want the more personal approach/higher quality childcare etc. should be prepared to pay for it.
I dont know what its like for you guys, but the parents of my mindee's choose a Childminder over Nurseries etc. as they felt this was the beter option, not because Childminders are supposed to be cheaper.

If anything I charge a couple of pounds a day more than the Nurseries, and am paid a day's fee instead of by the hour.

Where I live, the going rate is £2.75 per hour so I wouldn't get much more than £18 per day anyway. There is one childminder round here that charges £60 per week for full time children. The thing is she is a really nice lady and I can't compete with her
