I've got a parent coming around this afternoon, she's just phoned me u p. Her son has been diagnosed with ADHD recently (he's 5).

I'd love some tips on what to get ready for him and what to expect, apparently he loves dogs and I have two of them so  for that!

until you know his needs theres not a lot more you can do than have your continual provision out except paint and messy play,

i have worked with LO's with ADHD and as long as you have stricked house rules , a good behavioural policy (work with parents on this) and stick to ya guns it can be very enjoyable and rewarding,

some LO's with ADHD just flip from one activity to another realy quickly etc
google it and theres loads of help and advice

good luck xx

It may help if you google it and get some information on the disability itself.
My brother has ADHD and he is hard work and exhausting.
Children with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) have tons of energy and can go for hours no stop. You will also find children with ADHD are actually very clever so you will need to make sure activities are challenging but not too much. My brother found work easy so he used to do it then screw it up and start messing around because it was too easy and if its too hard they will just give up.
Also they can just 'flip' however there is normally a trigger such as being wound up, being bored or getting frustrated.
They are lovely children really but hard work but if you can find a level ground and work with them it is very rewarding. As your mindee will 5 he will know alot more about right and wrong.
On the occasions you do need to use discipline be firm and consistent and do not make allowances for his condition as this will encourage him to use it as an excuse. Use feelings and try and talk things through.
And if it looks like somethings brewing get in there and stop it before it starts as it will be easier to deal with.
Best of luck x

Each child with adhd is as different from each other as any other child.

Is the child taking meds??? Is it diet controlled how do the paretns manage his behaviour??

Is he prone to violent out bursts. Can he socialise well??? Does he have other conditions??? Most ADHD kids have other conditons as well as adhhd.

Find out as much as you can about the little one. prob more than you might for another child.

Kids with adhd are loveing but demanding and blooming hard work. I know, I have one :D

I find routine works, keep tasks simple. kids can be quite a bit behiind sometimes up to 3yrs with sociall skills etc .

Pm me is you'd like any more help
