Hi

Does anyone use the toddler sleep mats for LO's to nap on or what do you all use once a child is too big for a travel cot?

Thanks

One child sleeps on my bed
2nd child sleeps on spare bed
3rd child sleeps on sofa

All on top of the covers (not actually in the beds) covered with a lightweight, cotbed blanket :-)

The trouble is I have a mindee just turned 2 who won't go in the travel cot anymore but gets so tired and won't give in to it so I was thinking if I got mindee their own sleep mat they might be persuaded to lay down with a blanket and have a sleep. There's no way I could trust mindee upstairs.

We have a downstair bed room so children could sleep in bed in there, what about the sofa or maybe a ready bed

We use the base of the travel cot.

On a previous thread about this some minders have said they use the dog mattresses for older children to have a sleep/rest on

Gosh the price of some of those dog matresses its cheaper to buy a Ready Bed which has a removable cotten cover that you can wash.

I use Ready Beds and I have a sofa bed in my playroom.

Was only wondering about this the other day.
Find a cheap shop like these market shops or pound shops, I paid a fiver for mine and it's huge. Any chance my littlies get they want to sit on it, unfortuantly the dog is not impressed! I might invest in one now for the Tiddlies.

Thank you some great ideas there
I have tried her with the sofas but she just won't give in and lay down for longer than 30 seconds. I can't fit a sofa bed in the playroom as it is now and can't afford to buy one anyway. I like the idea of using the base off the travel cot. Might try that with a blanket. Got to keep the other LO's quiet though. Gosh it's hard trying to persuade a 2yr old that they really do need to have a nap. Mindee fell asleep at the dinner table yesterday, bless.

I use the base of the travel cot too when mindees get too big for it.
Have you tried putting on a story cd on when it's nap time. Might keep lo happy to lay down to sleep & helps drown the noise of the other children playing.

I also use my travel cot base when mindees outgrow the travel cot. It's so quick and easy to get out and put away, just cover with a sheet and a blanket and seems to work really well.

My mindees know that if they are upstairs they are being trusted... i have any personal possessions and beauty products up on high shelves/in cupboards and i have a baby monitor in one room (older child who has been with me for several years) and a video baby monitor in the other room so i can always see if little lady, 18 months, gets out of bed etc - she quickly gave that up after realising (and still not working out how i knew!) that i would be in the room within seconds putting her back in bed - you can pick up video monitors quite cheap on ebay these days :) The return to bed technique that supernanny uses can quite easily and successfully be used at nap time as well, especially if the child really does need a nap and you are consistent - good luck with whichever route you decide to head down :) xx
