How much to charge for dinner?

Hi all -

I'm a new childminder and have had an enquiry today for two children (4&5) for after school one day a week from 3 to 6. They would like me to provide dinner which is not included in my hourly fee. I didn't really expect anyone to need me to provide dinner (we don't eat dinner that early!), so just have something vague in my fees form about an additional charge. How much is reasonable to charge?

I charge £1.50 for my after-schoolers meal but I think that's cheap considering what they get.

School dinners are now £2.00 a day in our area and they are subsidised. If you are cooking a proper dinner then I would think £2.00 is a reasonable charge

I charge £1.50 for evening meals, this is a hot meal plus fruit and yoghurts for pud:)

we are having 3 after wschoolers as of september and they are all intrested in dinners
i was thinking 1.50

I think £2.50 per meal is reasonable - we have higher costs as we cook small amounts :thumbsup:

I don't charge the parents for meals as I include in hourly fees but for the sake of my tax return I sat down and worked out cost of about 10 meals I make plus a piece of fruit and yogurt and averaged it out - I therefore put £2.50 for an evening meal. As long as you can work out why you are charging that amount I don't think it is unreasonable at all. :thumbsup:

i used to charge £2.50 per meal but now just include it in my fees because its easier, i didnt want parents picking up early and then expect the payment to be refunded or expecting me to cook different meals for their fussy eaters etc, i now offer it as a freebie lol

Well they haven't phoned back to schedule a visit, so it may be a non-starter anyway! I think I will charge £2.00 for dinner and £1 for breakfast - nice round numbers (lunch is included in fees)! Thanks for all the replies!
