I'm sure I read on here last week or so about Treasure Baskets and somebody putting jars in them. Glass jars? Do you glue the lids on? Can you put 'food' stuff in them like rice and things to make them interesting? Are they safe for children to shake/roll about the floor? x

Thats funny this was bought up in a meeting i went too, yes why can,t you use glass jars (the thick ones) it all about risk assessment we can,t expect children to know how to handle these things with care if they are not allowed to touch them. Of course you can,t let a young baby just play with one without very close supervision but putting rice or something in, rolling it along the floor, using one for water when painting etc, if its risk assessed its ok. I do this and so do alot of other childminders and early years professionals.:)

That's exactly what I thought!! I'm sure at the Nursery here I've seen some lovely sparkly ones, wonder what they put in with the glitter, just water maybe? I can't wait to go get creative now!! Might even glue some ribbon to one or two on the ends?! x

if putting glitter or other bits that you want to 'float' in water, add a couple of spoonfuls of glycerine to the water before you glue the lid on!

or you can buy small bottles of it with the home baking stuff! usually with food colouring! ( you put it in royal icing to keep it soft! )

If you don't want to use glass jars then you can buy small plastic ones from crafty crocodiles.

I save the ones you get nuts in at Christmas and use those.
